More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/This is a very user-friendly and makes it easy to get started on a keto diet (a plant-based one)。 It's a 14 day plan that eases you into keto with some high and some low carb recipes。 Those who are strict on keto may find a lot of the recipes to be too high in carbs (averaging 25 carbs or so with recipes up to 95 carbs)。 The author believes in compromises and so you have recipes with e。g。, maple syrup, oats, agave syr More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/This is a very user-friendly and makes it easy to get started on a keto diet (a plant-based one)。 It's a 14 day plan that eases you into keto with some high and some low carb recipes。 Those who are strict on keto may find a lot of the recipes to be too high in carbs (averaging 25 carbs or so with recipes up to 95 carbs)。 The author believes in compromises and so you have recipes with e。g。, maple syrup, oats, agave syrup, etc。 There is also a heavy reliance on almond milk/flour (which is normal for keto but also problematic for nut allergies and intolerances) and cauliflower。 Trust me, you'll really want to like cauliflower if you follow this plan。The recipes follow a vegan-philosophy: no eggs, milk, dairy, meats。 Instead, there are a lot of nuts in all the recipes in order to ensure the protein count stays high。 The recipes for the most part are basic: what you would want to make shopping easy and preparation fast。 There's nothing exotic but again, you know that if one of the recipes is a baked apple-pecan oatmeal, it will be higher in carbs than recommended for achieving ketosis。 Again, the author believes in adding some higher carb days in with the lower carbs since plant-based eating is so healthy anyway that the higher carbs aren't coming from bad sources like candy or processed food。The book has a quick introduction to understanding keto and then goes on to get you ready for starting the diet。 Shopping lists and preparation are all covered so you can start the two weeks easily。 Plenty of options are given for each meal plan to customize to your own tastes。 Some also include extra servings for leftovers that can be reheated or used as snacks (or repurposed into a new meal)。There are only a small amount of photographs for the recipes。 Each has large type in 3 colors: blue, red, black。 At the top of each recipe are keywords (e。g。, quick prep, 5-ingredient, worth the wait) in red and then the title of recipe。 Underneath are serving size, prep time, cook time。 A small paragraph gives more information about the recipe (honestly, usually just hyping it up)。 Ingredients are in bold italics。 Steps are numbered and fairly short and not clunky。 Underneath the steps there are tips for substitutions, preparation, etc。 Nutrition info (calories, total fat, total carbs, fiber, net carbs, protein) and then macro information (percentage of fat, protein carbs) for each serving。Recipes include: strawberry cheesecake smoothie bowls, southwestern scramble, whole roasted cauliflower, tomato-basil soup, zesty jicama salad, stuffed bell peppers, etc。 Cauliflower (as rice, as a vegetable side, and even as a 'steak') features prominently in the dinners: 4 of the 7 dinners on the first week feature cauliflower in the title/main ingredient。For those starting out, this is a solid beginning。 It's all laid out cleanly for you and you don't have to read or do a lot。 For those already on keto looking for more plant-based options, it's ok。 There isn't a great variety and the dishes are meant to be simple to ease the transition into keto eating。 I would also argue that a lot aren't really keto at all, just healthier eating。 So those who really want to lose a lot of weight fast, this may not be the best option (though you should still have solid weight loss on this diet)。I liked that the book is about compromise and tailoring the meals toward your own tastes。 I also really like that it makes going keto very friendly and easy for those looking to get into that kind of diet。 The author notes that a plant-based keto diet is much more restrictive than a regular keto but with the benefits of better end health and a better result for the environment。 The book is not preachy about keto or plant based eating/environment concerns。 Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher。 。。。more
Melanie,
I picked this book up on kindle unlimited purely for the recipes。 Having followed keto diet since 2019 and lost 90lbs I now tend to maintain or go low carb。 However I am always looking for new recipes and was interested in a no meat version of keto as it isn’t easy to achieve。 For uk people I will say this, this book is a US book at a guess so works in net carbs。 In the uk are carbs are worked out differently and fibre is not subtracted from our carb intake like in the net carb method。 So many o I picked this book up on kindle unlimited purely for the recipes。 Having followed keto diet since 2019 and lost 90lbs I now tend to maintain or go low carb。 However I am always looking for new recipes and was interested in a no meat version of keto as it isn’t easy to achieve。 For uk people I will say this, this book is a US book at a guess so works in net carbs。 In the uk are carbs are worked out differently and fibre is not subtracted from our carb intake like in the net carb method。 So many of the recipes would not be suitable or wouldn’t leave you with much carb allowance for the rest of the day。 On another note though, the recipes looked good。 Ingredients was things I generally would have in my cupboard/fridge and from a low carb diet point of view would would great。 They were well explained and easy to follow。 I especially liked the strawberry cheesecake smoothie bowl recipe! This is on kindle unlimited to see if you subscribe to the service。 It’s hard to find a recipe book I think (Especially when diet specific) to please and suit all。 But as a ‘guide’ this could work great for US people (Or UK if you follow low carb and not keto)。 3 stars。 。。。more
LittleRead,
I’ve been looking for ways to reduce meat while doing Keto, so I thought this would be a great book to read。 Unfortunately, most of the recipes are too high in carbs and use non Keto ingredients。 I’m a strict Keto gal and this isn’t the book for me。
